Surabaya – Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Creative Industry, University of Surabaya (UBAYA BEM FIK) Working together with the doodoono community to hold Artsy Week or art weekend with the theme “Swara Rani”. The event was held on April 18-20 2018 at Gazebok FIK, University of Surabaya. In addition to welcoming Kartini Day on April 21, 2018, this event is a medium for students to convey their aspirations regarding Indonesian women.

Various two-dimensional and three-dimensional works are displayed starting from photography, college art, nirmana, glass and other paintings. Previously, the committee opened a special opportunity for students who wanted to contribute their work in accordance with the theme of Swara Rani. Collected approximately 20 works from Ubaya FIK students.

In language, Swara is taken from the Javanese language, which means that the voice and Rani are taken from Sanskrit which means woman. If it is put together in Indonesian, it becomes the Voice of Women.

“Through voice, women are calling for their opinions bravely in the midst of society not only verbally but non-verbally which is expressed in various forms as a sign of their struggle to uphold gender equality,” said Kenny Hartanto as Chair of the Artsy Week.

In addition to the exhibition of works, several agenda events were held for three days such as discussions on short films produced by FIK students, talk shows with alumni as well as surgery on the products of Ubaya FIK students themselves. In 2018, the first time Artsy Week was held. “We hope that this event can be held annually. Because through this, students can clearly convey their aspirations through the abilities they have in the field of art, namely to produce useful work, “said Kenny when asked about his hopes for the future.

Not only FIK students who visit this event, but also from other faculties are also interested in looking around. One of them is Vero, second semester student of the Faculty of Pharmacy. “Very good works displayed. I and my friends as students of other faculties were amazed to see it, because we can’t pour works like this. See it being happy because it is unique too, so it gives new values about Indonesian women that we were not aware of before, “he said.
